    An in-depth 2 hour workshop that will take you step by step through the process of 3D Printing an item from the Thingiverse catalogue. What we will cover in this workshop:

    1) An introduction and explanation of how a 3D printer works

    2) What is Thingiverse and how can you use it?

    3) How to download an item from Thingiverse

    4) What is Cura?/ Slicing an object in Cura

    5) How to transfer a design from Cura to the 3D Printer

    6) 3D Printing your chosen object (as this is a free taster session you will be restricted by a 50p cost limit)

  • An Introduction to designing in TinkerCAD

    An in-depth 2 hour workshop that explores the basics of designing in TinkerCAD. What we will cover in this workshop:

    1) How to create a TinkerCAD account

    2) TinkerCAD tutorials

    3) How to insert shapes onto the work plane

    4) How to insert objects from Thingiverse onto the work plane

    5) How to size and scale an object

    6) How to export an object as an STL

    7) What is Cura?/ Slicing an object in Cura

Laser Cutting

  • Cardboard Collage

    Using basic laser cut shapes to create a decorative monochromatic collage. What we will cover in this workshop:

    1) Introduction to TinkerCAD

    2) Demonstration of how to find and flatten 2D shapes

    3) How to create a simple base for your layers using the "Box" shape in TinkerCAD

    4) 15 minutes to research design ideas for your collage

    5) 15 minutes to experiment with designs, shapes and layout

    6) How to layout a file for Laser Cutting

    7) How to export an SVG from TinkerCAD

  • How to make a miniature box with a hinge

    Bring along your own A4, 3mm sheet of Plywood or MDF and learn how to create a miniature box in just a few steps. What we will cover in this workshop:

    1) An introduction to the website Makercase

    2) Learning how to fit your box plan to your sheet of material

    3) How to input measurements on Makercase

    4) How to download your design from Makercase

    5) How to edit your design in TinkerCAD

    6) How to import your design to our Laser Cutter software

    7) An introduction to Canva

    8) How to use the text and elements features of Canva to personalize your box

    9) Laser cutting and assembling your final box

Where can I buy sheets of plywood / MDF?

There are several ways that you can purchase material for laser cutting. Methods most commonly used by our Makerspace users are purchasing via Amazon or a local company called Laser Ply. The options to the right are just suggestions, please also do your own research when purchasing suitable materials.

Cricut Maker 3

  • Create a Mini Card Collage

    Learn how to create a simple mini card collage using basic shapes, cardstock and the Cricut Maker 3. What we will cover in this workshop:

    1) Introduction to the Cricut Maker 3

    2) 20 minutes to research collage design ideas

    3) An introduction to the Cricut design space

    4) How to import and manipulate shapes in the Cricut Design Space

    5) How to load up and cut cardstock on the Cricut Maker 3

    6) Remaining time can be used to complete the miniature collage
